let's get one thing straight; i love jesus as much as the next guy (equal to but no greater than elvis mind you) but seriously, do you really need to celebrate his birth, his death, and then him coming back as some crazy zombie? to be honest, i never really did care that much for easter (cept for the chocolate)... must be all those creepy rabbit costumes and long drawn out church services i suffered as a child.

ok, so maybe i'm just grumpy cause on day's like this absolutely no one comes in to buy porno, leaving me completely bored half way through my shift and ready to tear my hair out.

so i decided, instead of sneaking into my neighbours back yard later and hunting around for their kids left over eggs, i should make a stencil about my disdain and go spray paint my neighbourhood a little.

i'm into art... like really really into it (as if you couldn't tell), but i'm also one of those people who doesn't believe something has to be framed and hanging in a gallery to be considered great art. in fact, i think i have a greater appreciation for art that's made and displayed by untrained random people, and made visible to the average everyday person for free... no strings attached.

zines, self published comics, art blogs, scrap pieces of paper covered in doodles floating around in the wind; this kind of art really speaks to me, really touches my heart and soul. i guess after saying that it wouldn't surprise you to know that i hold street art and graffiti way high up on my list of "favorite kind of art".

now when i say street art what does it make you think of? lewd poems scratched into the bathroom stall wall, a half legible gang name scribbled on a trash can? well yeah, i'd consider these to be of the same faction, but there's so much more to it than that. today's street art comes in all shapes and sizes (some as big as a building!). it's beautiful, complex, compelling, random, and above all, a personal message that is there to stir and move you.

there is as much style and variety in modern street art as there is in any gallery, and in my opinion it's better because the artists making it aren't doing it to get paid or to push their career in the right direction. no, no, no they're doing it just for you, to make you think and feel, to communicate, and their doing it extremely well.

these guys/girls are risking prosecution and fines to show their stuff to the masses, all this while knowing full well that their work of art might be destroyed within hours, or even minutes after completion. now that's fucking art people, i don't even care what it looks like!

Lambiek Comiclopedia

oh sunday, how i love thee. so many fond memories; late brunches, leisurely coffees, newspaper comics...

speaking of comics, if you are into them as much as me, or even slightly close to the amount that i am, one site you need to check out is the Lambiek Comiclopedia. this is one of the first sites i started repeatedly going to way back when the internet was all shiny and new to me, and probably the most influential and inspirational that i've seen since.

so what's a comiclopedia? it's pretty self explanatory but in simple terms it's an on line encyclopedia that contains profiles on over ten thousand comic writers and illustrators from around the world (have you ever seen a comic from turkey? they are pretty fucking sweet...).

basically if you've ever read a comic strip, book, or novel, there's surely a profile on the artist with examples of their work, and likely an informative biography to boot. if not, they are ALWAYS looking for new content, so i suggest dropping them a line and letting them know about the artist they've missed, they will seriously love you for ever for it.

just a side note: Lambiek is actually a comic store in Europe (they boast one of the first) and is now one of the oldest comic book shops in the world people... in... the...world.

in addition to artist profiles the comiclopedia contains an extensive history of Dutch comics, which is something you should totally check out if you haven't already. they also have information on the comics code and specific pages devoted to underground comics (probably my favorite portion to browse around in), disney artists, web comics, and more!

so considering it is sunday, and considering that comics and sundays go together like condoms and casual sex, why not head over there and do some digging? just type in a name, country, or other key word into the search bar (i like to type in the phrase "adult") or click on a letter in the alphabet provided and get started already!!!

one site that has really got me pumped is The Scribble Project. it's a really simple plan; encourage doodlers of all talent levels to participate by giving everyone the same basic template to work with. sound like something you'd want to delve into? me too!

this weekend is supposed to be one of the most important when it comes to working in a porno shop. having said that, i've had like two customers today and it's almost one in the afternoon already. i'm super surprised i'm not totally swamped, it being both a long weekend and the day before valentines day?

being as bored as i am right now i wanted to update my blog but all my stuff is at home. so i just thought i'd point out that i've been randomly checking out blogs and sites lately and adding the ones i like to my side bar. after hours and hours of surfing through blog after blog about god, toddlers, scrap booking, and other crap (no offense) i've actually managed to find a few that are pretty kick ass. i'm sure you don't need any help finding them so click away my pretties, and realize the vast and exciting visual and intellectual stimulus that awaits you.
